Job Summary
Sweetwater Marine is seeking a Captain responsible for the safe operation of company vessels, movement of barges within customer fleets, and supervision of crew members. This position plays a key role in ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable operations while delivering exceptional service to our customers.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Safely operate company truckable tugboats
- Lead, mentor, and supervise deckhands and crew members, fostering teamwork and maintaining high safety standards.
- Move and position barges within fleets and dock facilities
- Complete and Maintain detailed logs of vessel activities, safety checks, maintenance records, and operational reports.
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures
- Communicate professionally with customers and team members
- Report maintenance and operational concerns
Qualifications
- Previous marine, towing, fleet, or vessel operations required
- Demonstrated leadership ability and a strong work ethic
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
- Coast Guard license required
- Valid driver’s license required
- TWIC card preferred (or ability to obtain one)
- Physical ability to maintain balance on uneven surfaces and perform repetitive movements is required.
- Ability to safely handle heavy equipment in various work environments.
- Must be able to frequently lift, carry, push, and pull materials weighing up to 75 pounds, with occasional assistance for heavier items.
- Prolonged standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and climbing in and out of tugboats.
- The ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screening and physical.
