Description:
The Tankermen serves as the person-in-charge of critical operations, with responsibility for protecting the environment by ensuring the safe transfer of petrochemicals to barges. Tankermen work on barges to transport liquid cargo up a river or canal. In this role, you work on the barge and help with the transfer of crude oil, gasoline fuel, or liquid natural gas.
- When transferring the liquids, your job duties include connecting hoses, aligning valves, carrying equipment off and on to the barge, and documenting the transfer.
- Tankermen are responsible for standing watch, communicating with dispatchers and dock crew, and assisting with other operations aboard the barge.
- Tankermen must follow all environmental and safety policies and regulations throughout the trip and is required to wear protective clothing and use fresh air equipment when necessary.
- Tankermen often works on an on-call schedule and may be called to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
- The standard work schedule for Tankermen are 12 hour shifts (5 nights, 5 days, and off for 5 days) starting at 6am to 6pm.
- Must be familiar with Wepfer Marine, Inc. policies, procedures, safety rules and regulations, and must abide by them at all times as well as applicable laws, regulations, and other legal requirements.
- From time to time, perform other tasks that may be assigned by management.
Requirements:
Qualifications include:
- Must hold current Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC)
- PIC Barge- DL
- Successfully pass pre-employment screening including but not limited to drug and alcohol testing.
- Able to pass a TSA background check
The physical work demand for this position are classified as very heavy work, during which the employee will exert 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force consistently to move objects when making tow or performing other tasks. Safety equipment is very important and can include fire-extinguishers, life jackets and inflatable life rafts.
