Job Summary:
The position as Naval Architect II is responsible for providing Naval Architect services during the proposal, design, analysis, development, implementation and warranty of marine vessels following shipbuilding standards. This role requires an understanding of marine systems, and the ability to cross collaborate with various teams to meet requirements. This involves helping to ensure that propulsion, ventilation, heating, cooling, and structural Naval Architect components operate efficiently and reliably in maritime environments. Electrical Engineer II often works under supervision but can take on some complex projects and responsibilities.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
- Support Naval Architect systems for ship sections under some supervision.
- Cross Collaborate with other teams and senior Naval Architect to ensure smooth integration and provide technical support during installation phases, as necessary.
- Help create and improve Naval Architect systems for ships, including propulsion, steering, and HVAC systems.
- Perform Naval Architect design, analysis, and testing of ship systems
- Develop technical drawings and specifications for Naval Architect components under supervision.
- Support and use simulations and testing protocols to evaluate performance, durability, and safety of Naval Architect components.
- Help support with reviewing Naval Architect documents, diagrams, and analyses; making changes/corrections as needed.
- Assistance with detailed plans of action and deficiency reports to meet project objectives and schedules.
- Contribute to the development of innovative Naval Architect system solutions to improve efficiency and performance.
- Help prepare documentation to secure approvals by classification societies and coast guard using standards, rules/regulations, and specifications.
- Support with preparing construction planning support activities, detailed drawings, 3D models and onboard surveys.
- Perform detail design/drafting of marine craft structures, plans and outfitting for new shipbuilding and repair/conversions.
- Generate production information for ship structure, hull machinery/equipment installation, hull fitting installation/fabrication, accommodation furnishings, etc.
- Perform general calculation for structural changes according to class rules or 1st principle and FEA if necessary.
- Review 3D Design Model using Software’s like Ship Constructor and compare to the design package, and if issues are found, work with Engineering Management to find and implement solutions.
- Review of final construction packages or outputs developed by the 3D Modeling Software’s and compare them with design drawings and the approved Model.
- Responsible for performing tasks in the areas of stability and general design, structural, strength analysis for various situations, research vendor information and provide recommendations for the selection of equipment, and systems or piping.
- Participates in testing of marine craft.
- Design layout of craft interior including cargo space, crew compartments, and ladder wells, etc.
- Regular attendance at work and the ability to work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, and holidays.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Understanding of CAD software, ShipConstructor or similar software such as AVEVA, NUPAS CADMATIC, Navisworks or similar CAD/CAM software required
- Basic understanding of marine systems, equipment, industry standards, and regulations.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail specifically within marine engineering field.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook required
- experience in areas of marine piping systems and controls, HVAC systems, propulsion systems and overall ship marine system design
- Ability to perform and use 2D/3D software to handle various type of formatted Documents as PDS/Adobe, etc., for verification of Vendor Data, Structural and Vessel Component and Machinery Arrangements, Naval Architect Drawings such as Piping and HVAC, Production Packages and Schedules, etc.
- Basic knowledge of Classification Rules, International codes and standards as: ABS SVRs and NVR, DNV, API, AISC, ASTM, ISO, SAWE RP 14, and MIL Standards
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Cross collaboration skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Understanding of shipboard power distribution, lighting, and control systems.
- Understanding of fundamental ship operations, including propulsion and dynamic positioning, the basic principles of marine engineering, structure and naval architecture.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management and government officials.

- Ability to conduct stability calculations/ analysis, failure analysis, and finite element analysis calculations.
Qualifications and Experience:
- 1-3 years of experience in marine engineering, Naval Architect, preferably in the shipbuilding or marine industry or related field preferred
- Associates or Bachelor’s (preferred) degree in marine engineering, Engineering Technology or related field preferred
- Citizenship: U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Resident Card required.
