Senior Naval Architect
JBAndrews
Job Description
Senior Naval Architect | Shipbuilding & Vessel Design
Northern Florida, USA | Commercial & Government Vessel Construction
Some naval architecture roles keep you behind a desk. Others put you at the center of the shipbuilding process, where your engineering decisions directly influence the vessels being built.
We are partnering with an established US shipbuilder delivering both commercial and government vessel projects, seeking an experienced Senior Naval Architect to take on a technically influential position within its engineering team.
This is an opportunity for someone who wants genuine ownership of their work, exposure to complex vessel programs, and the satisfaction of seeing designs progress from engineering through construction, testing and delivery.
The Opportunity
Working across newbuild, modification and vessel conversion projects, you will play a key role in shaping technical solutions and supporting their successful execution.
You'll have the autonomy to make important engineering decisions, work directly with shipyard production teams, and contribute across the full vessel lifecycle.
Your remit will include:
- Leading and supporting naval architecture activities across commercial and government vessel projects.
- Taking ownership of stability, hydrostatics, vessel performance, structural arrangements and weight control.
- Developing and reviewing vessel designs, technical specifications and engineering documentation.
- Working closely with production teams to solve real-world engineering and construction challenges.
- Supporting vessel testing, inclining experiments, sea trials and delivery.
- Providing technical guidance to engineers and designers while helping improve engineering standards and practices.
Why Consider This Opportunity?
What makes this position particularly attractive is the breadth of technical involvement and the influence you'll have over the finished product.
Rather than working exclusively on isolated design packages, you'll be closely connected to the vessels themselves, from early engineering decisions through to construction and operational readiness.
You'll join a shipbuilding environment where naval architecture is integral to project execution, with the independence to solve complex problems and the opportunity to lead technical activities across assigned vessel projects.
What We're Looking For
We're interested in speaking with naval architects who bring:
- 7+ years of relevant experience in naval architecture, marine engineering, vessel design or shipbuilding.
- Strong technical expertise in vessel stability, hydrostatics, structures, arrangements and weight control.
- Experience supporting vessel construction, modification, repair or delivery.
- The ability to independently manage complex engineering challenges and develop practical, buildable solutions.
- A degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Ocean Engineering or a closely related discipline.
Experience with steel or aluminum vessel construction, classification requirements and shipyard production would be particularly valuable.
Interested in Taking the Next Step?
If you're an experienced Naval Architect looking for greater technical ownership, direct involvement in vessel construction and the opportunity to influence projects from design through delivery, I'd welcome a confidential conversation.
