JOB SUMMARY: The Project Engineer – Marine Systems will provide marine systems engineering expertise to a variety of existing and developing projects worldwide. Resource, lead, and collaborate both with existing and developing projects in meeting health, safety, security, environmental, operational, technical, and commercial objectives. Assist with technical support throughout the operational life of FSRU/LNGC vessels, obsolescence replacement, drydocks, upgrades, and projects. Directly support upcoming projects for Newbuilds, Conversions, Terminals, and redeployment of assets.
As a Project Engineer – Marine Systems, you will be responsible for the ship design and construction engineering of propulsion systems, power generation/management, marine auxiliary systems, marine mechanical/piping and associated I&C to improve the project reliability, availability, maintainability, safety, and survivability, including preventive and corrective actions of marine systems of the FSRU and/or LNGC.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include but are not limited to the following activities:
- Ensure HSSEQ is addressed in all aspects of work planning and execution.
- Core expertise of marine engineering systems, propulsion, electrical, and auxiliary machinery.
- Preparation of marine engineering documents/drawings to support project development and execution.
- Modelling and simulation of conceptual and existing marine systems.
- Provide technical support for existing ship operations, as required.
- Optimization and modification of existing marine equipment.
- Support safety, security, environmental, quality, and operability reviews (e.g., Readiness Reviews, HAZID, HAZOP, FMECA, SIL Rating, Risk Assessment, RAM, etc.)
- Broad and depth knowledge of marine engineering and ship systems to ensure functionality and high operability of engine room system designs for steam and diesel electric plants, and willingness to lead, manage operations and projects outside of core expertise.
- In-depth knowledge of industry standards for vessel design including Classification Rules, Flag State, Regulatory requirements, best practices, and guidelines.
- Supervise and manage contractors (inc. subcontractors) to ensure the efficient implementation of Excelerate Energy’s goals and objectives by means of work scope specifications, standards, customer standards and regulatory standards.
- Provide Project and Terminal support for design, engineering, commissioning, start-up, operation, troubleshooting, and shutdown of facilities.
- Preparation of concept and basic functional diagrams, P&IDs diagrams, arrangement diagrams, valve list, material take-offs, and other components calculations, basis of design, functional descriptions, and technical documents, as required.
- Sizing and specification of marine main and auxiliary equipment.
- Strong knowledge of fluid dynamics and thermodynamics.
- Ability to develop concept and basic heat balance calculations for steam and diesel electric plants.
- Develop, supervise, and coordinate basic, and detailed marine engineering including definition of equipment required to fulfill the project systems objectives in accordance with the design criteria as defined for the project, and in compliance with company policies, standards, and best practices.
- Prepare, review, approve, and manage project work packs within the required time frame with clear and concise description of the work along with accurate technical details, clearly defined material, and specific class and certificate level requirements.
- Identify vendors in collaboration with the Supply Chain Management (SCM) and the Project Manager to support operations and projects, as needed.
- Prepare and review vendor requests for quote (RFQ) with complete work scope details including required delivery date, specific vendor documentation, certification, and class requirements.
- Prepare purchase order specifications (POS), purchase justification, documentation, and class requirements.
- Review, approve, manage, and supervise vendors and shipyard design, drawings, specifications, and documentation. Including vendor’s contractual technical and commercial commitments. Immediately report to Project Manager any changes in vendor delivery schedule to ensure project schedule and cost implications are addressed.
- Requires international travel availability to shipyards in order to attend and actively participate in newbuild projects, conversions, operating assets, commissioning, and support to OPS.
- Monitor and manage financial status of assigned work scopes and submit meaningful and reasonably accurate forecast to complete (FTC) for the Project Manager.
- Ensure the work scope is completed fit for purpose and value added to Excelerate Energy.
- Ensure all operations, engineering, and quality control processes are followed, including Management of Change, and document control in order to document changes.
- Subject Matter Expert (SME) of Marine Engineering.
- Capacity to lead, manage and support other Project Engineers in Marine, Propulsion, Power Generation, and auxiliary systems.
- Familiarity with Classification Society Plan Approval workflows is required.
- Thorough understanding of control safety and loss prevention concepts.
- The ability to conduct Project Management and adapt to changing circumstances.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Min. 4 year recognized bachelor’s degree or equivalent marine engineering degree and 5+ years project engineering experience in offshore oil and gas industry on large industrial or marine design, construction, and operations projects.
- Senior Marine Engineer, steam, diesel or gas-turbine background is preferred.
- Experience in LNG and natural gas related operations and design is required.
- Experience in newbuilt shipyards and refit drydocking’s.
- PMP or P.E. Certification is desirable.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite, including Visio.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD is required.
- Proficiency in AFT Fathom and Arrow is desirable.
- Proficiency in MS Project is desirable.
