Oiler

Job Title: Oiler – R/V Sally Ride

Scripps Institution of Oceanography is seeking an Oiler to join the crew aboard the R/V Sally Ride, with a start date of August 20, 2026. The vessel is currently in Alameda, California.

The Oiler will support the vessel’s engineering department with the operation, maintenance, and upkeep of engine-room machinery and equipment. Responsibilities may include assisting engineers with routine maintenance and repairs, monitoring machinery, maintaining engine-room cleanliness, performing lubrication and preventive maintenance, and supporting safe vessel operations as directed by the engineering officers.

Applicants should be comfortable working in a physically demanding marine environment and as part of a team aboard a research vessel.

Required credentials include:

• Valid U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC)
• Able Seafarer–Engine endorsement
• Current USCG Medical Certificate
• TWIC card
• Valid STCW credentials as required for the position
