Job Description
Title: Naval Architect
Location: Santa Ana, CA (Onsite)
Duration: 6 Month (Contract to Perm)
Start Date: ASAP
JOB DESCRIPTION
You will own naval architecture for a maritime autonomous vehicle: hull form, hydrodynamic performance, stability, and the weight and buoyancy budget that constrains the entire program. The vehicle operates fully submerged for extended durations with no crew aboard, which puts the stability and control margins on a different footing than a conventional vessel.
Your spectrum of support will be diverse in nature and require you to leverage your technical expertise as well as leadership skills to set objectives, build cross-functional teams, and rapidly drive to completion.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Own hull form development and hydrodynamic performance for the vehicle
- Own the vehicle weight, buoyancy, and center-of-gravity budget as a program artifact
- Perform stability analysis for submerged, surfaced, and transitional conditions
- Predict resistance and powering, and support propulsion integration
- Analyze maneuvering and seakeeping behavior, and size control surfaces with GN&C
- Run CFD studies and correlate results against model test and trial data
- Define and support model test campaigns
- Drive trade studies between hull form, internal volume, endurance, and performance
- Partner with Structures, Buoyancy & Trim, Propulsion, and GN&C on shared constraints
- Support at-sea trials and performance validation
- Travel up to 25% to test sites, test basins, and manufacturing facilities
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering, Marine Engineering, or equivalent
- 7+ years of naval architecture or marine hydrodynamics experience
- Experience owning hydrostatics, stability, and a weight and buoyancy budget on a vehicle program
- Experience with resistance and powering prediction
- Proficiency with CFD or hydrodynamic analysis tools
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret security clearance
NICE TO HAVE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Experience with submarines, AUVs, UUVs, torpedoes, or ROVs
- Submerged stability and free-flooding volume design
- Model testing, towing tank, or sea trial correlation experience
- Familiarity with ABS, DNV, or naval design codes
- Experience with maneuvering simulation and control surface design
- Experience in defense programs or maritime robotics
