Job Overview:
We are looking for a hands-on Structural Engineer to design, analyze, build, and test composite and metallic vessel structures. This role involves end-to-end ownership of structural systems, from initial CAD design and material selection to fabrication, prototype integration, physical testing, and sea trials. The ideal candidate should enjoy working directly with hardware rather than focusing only on simulations and analysis.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design vessel structures, hull layouts, brackets, mounts, supports, stiffeners, and structural connections using composite and metallic materials.
- Perform structural calculations and FEA to evaluate stress, strain, fatigue, buckling, impact, shock, and other operating loads.
- Develop structural designs considering weight optimization, material behavior, load paths, manufacturability, and durability.
- Use CAD tools to create 3D models and engineering drawings and make practical design decisions.
- Work closely with fabricators, technicians, suppliers, and engineering teams during fabrication, assembly, and integration.
- Conduct structural testing, troubleshoot failures, compare test results with analysis, and improve designs based on real-world performance.
- Support prototype development, vessel testing, and sea-trial activities.
Requirements:
- 3+ years of experience in structural, mechanical, marine, aerospace, or related engineering.
- Hands-on experience taking hardware from design through fabrication, integration, and testing.
- Strong understanding of structural mechanics, load calculations, stress analysis, and material selection.
- Working experience with FEA tools such as ANSYS, Abaqus, Nastran, FEMAP, or SolidWorks Simulation.
- Experience with CAD modeling, engineering drawings, and design for manufacturing (DFM).
- Knowledge of FRP composites, composite laminates, welded or bolted structures, and lightweight structural design is preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Marine, Naval Architecture, Civil/Structural Engineering, or a related field.
