Marine Piping Engineer / Designer

Shared Ice Services (SIS) provides support services to Nichols Brothers Boat Builders and Everett Ship Repair, two Pacific Northwest shipyards supporting new construction, repair, and overhaul projects.

We are seeking an experienced Marine Piping Engineer / Designer to support the design and production of vessel piping systems. This role will work closely with Engineering, Production, Purchasing, Quality, and outside design partners to take piping designs from engineering requirements through detailed production drawings used for fabrication and installation.

We are also open to experienced Pipe Designers who may not have a traditional engineering background but can demonstrate the marine piping knowledge and technical skills needed to perform the work.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain accurate 3D piping models of vessel systems, routing piping around equipment, structural interfaces, access requirements, and other shipboard systems.
• Develop detailed 2D piping layout drawings in accordance with design specifications, classification requirements, and applicable engineering standards.
• Prepare Assembly & Detail (A&D) drawings to support fabrication, field assembly, and vessel installation.
• Create and revise piping isometrics, spool drawings, and pipe support drawings for production.
• Interpret piping diagrams, engineering specifications, and vessel requirements to develop coordinated production designs.
• Identify and resolve clashes between piping, equipment, structure, HVAC, electrical, and other vessel systems while maintaining efficient and constructible routing.
• Ensure drawings meet applicable classification society rules, client specifications, industry codes, and company quality standards.
• Work directly with Engineering, Production, Purchasing, Quality, and outside design partners to resolve field questions and deliver accurate drawing packages on schedule.
• Provide field engineering and production support throughout vessel construction, including drawing revisions and design changes as needed.

Qualifications

• Experience in marine piping design, ship design, or production design for new construction, repair, or vessel conversion projects.
• Strong understanding of marine piping systems and the practical considerations involved in routing and installing piping aboard vessels.
• Experience developing 3D piping models and 2D production/fabrication drawings .
• Proficiency with AutoCAD ; experience with Rhinoceros and/or Navisworks is a plus.
• Ability to read and interpret piping diagrams, vessel specifications, technical documentation, and engineering drawings.
• Understanding of fabrication and installation considerations, including accessibility, equipment placement, structural interfaces, and constructability.
• Knowledge of ABS, 46 CFR, and other applicable marine regulations and classification requirements is preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline is preferred; relevant hands-on marine piping design experience may be considered in place of a degree.
