Marine Engineer Lead

Job Overview

We're looking for a hands-on Marine Engineer to lead projects from concept through fabrication, technical documentation, government submittals, and final delivery. This role splits time between the engineering office and the boat shop — you'll need to understand marine construction, work independently, and keep complex projects moving. Experience with USCG requirements, U.S. Government contracts, Technical Data Packages, and Master Equipment Lists is a strong plus.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, review, and manage engineering designs for new-construction aluminum boats, creating 3D models, assemblies, and production drawings in Rhino and/or SolidWorks.
• Review designs for accuracy, constructability, and compliance, working directly with fabrication and production teams to resolve engineering and construction issues.
• Manage project schedules, milestones, and priorities, coordinating engineers, designers, fabricators, vendors, and government representatives.
• Develop, maintain, and manage Technical Data Packages (TDPs) for vessel projects.
• Maintain configuration control, document control, revision history, and traceability of engineering and contract deliverables.
• Prepare, organize, track, and submit technical data packages and required documentation to government customers and contracting agencies.
• Manage government submittals, including drawing packages, engineering documentation, specifications, revisions, and supporting technical information.
• Develop and maintain the Master Equipment List (MEL), coordinating equipment data across engineering, purchasing, production, and vendors.
• Support compliance with U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Government, and contract-specific requirements throughout design and construction.

Requirements

• Professional experience in marine engineering, naval architecture, boat design, or marine construction, ideally with new-construction (aluminum) vessels.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling, preferably Rhino and/or SolidWorks.
• Strong project-management, organizational, and technical documentation skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
• Management or team-leadership experience, with excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
• Comfortable working independently in a self-directed, active boat-building/shop environment.
• USCG design/inspection/compliance experience, U.S. Government contract experience, TDP or MEL management, and/or a PE license are a strong plus.

Pay: $105,000.00 - $145,000.00 per year
