Control Systems Engineer

Owen Daniels is partnered with a fast-growing, privately funded maritime technology innovator They design and deliver next-generation, high-performance vessels for defense and commercial customers, and are seeking a Control Systems Engineer.

This is a genuinely hands-on role spanning sensors, actuation, control software, and real-world trials.

Job Summary

  • Integrate new sensors, actuators, and interface hardware into vessel control and management systems.
  • Configure, commission, and test analogue and digital sensor and actuation systems - signal verification, calibration, and performance assessment.
  • Adapt, implement, and tune closed-loop control algorithms on PLC-based or embedded platforms.
  • Deploy and benchmark vessel control software in test environments and onboard vessels.
  • Investigate and resolve hardware, software, and control-system faults across integrated vessel systems.
  • Run structured fault finding using diagnostics, system logs, telemetry, and I/O monitoring through to root cause and corrective action.
  • Take part in on the water trials - commissioning, operational testing, and real-time diagnostics.
  • Support test reporting, issue tracking, and continuous improvement of system reliability and operational readiness.

Required and Desirable Experience

  • Degree in Mechatronics, Electronics Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years in a relevant field
  • Experience designing and configuring closed-loop control systems.
  • PLC programming and configuration experience; CAN bus experience.
  • Desirable: CANOpen/NMEA2000/NMEA0183 protocols, embedded C/C++, electronics principles, mobile robotics.
