Maritime Auditor / Surveyor
A Maritime Auditor / Surveyor is responsible for evaluating shipping companies, vessels, and maritime organizations to ensure compliance with international safety, environmental, security, and quality management standards. This role involves conducting statutory and management system audits, assessing operational effectiveness, identifying areas for improvement, and issuing or recommending certification in accordance with applicable international regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct onboard and shore-based audits to verify compliance with the International Safety Management (ISM) Code, International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code, and other applicable maritime regulations.
- Perform audits of quality, environmental, and occupational health & safety management systems in accordance with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 standards for ship management companies, shipyards, and marine industry organizations.
- Identify non-conformities, prepare detailed audit reports, evaluate corrective actions, and recommend or issue statutory and management system certifications.
- Assess compliance with maritime labor, safety, and environmental requirements through the review of emergency preparedness, maintenance programs, operational procedures, and crew welfare practices.
- Provide technical guidance to clients regarding regulatory compliance and continuous improvement of management systems.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, or a related maritime discipline.
- Minimum of five years of experience in the maritime industry, including experience in ship management, marine operations, quality management, or an equivalent technical role.
- Lead Auditor certification (e.g., ISM/ISPS, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, or equivalent internationally recognized credentials) is preferred.
- Comprehensive knowledge of IMO conventions, Flag State requirements, and international maritime regulations.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, report writing, and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with clients and regulatory authorities.
