Join our dynamic maritime team as a Gillnet Deckhand and become a vital part of our water transportation operations. In this energetic role, you will assist with the deployment, retrieval, and maintenance of gillnets used for commercial fishing activities. Duties
- Assist with the deployment and retrieval of gillnets, ensuring proper rigging and handling at sea
- Operate water transportation equipment such as cranes and winches safely and efficiently
- Conduct routine vessel maintenance including cleaning, inspections, and minor mechanical repairs
- Follow maritime safety procedures diligently to maintain a secure working environment onboard
- Handle ropes and rigging at sea with precision to prevent tangles or accidents
- Support firefighting and first aid efforts during emergencies, including CPR if certified
- Communicate effectively with crew members to coordinate daily tasks and ensure smooth operations
Qualifications
- Prior water transportation industry experience or maritime crew background preferred
- Knowledge of US Coast Guard (USCG) regulations related to vessel safety and operation
- Ability to operate cranes, winches, and other water transportation equipment competently
- Experience in vessel maintenance, mechanical work on commercial ships, or rigging is highly desirable
- Strong understanding of maritime safety procedures including firefighting, first aid, and CPR certification preferred
- Excellent boat handling skills and ability to handle ropes at sea under challenging conditions
- Effective communication skills for teamwork and customer service when interacting with clients or stakeholders
