Position Summary The Assistant Engineer’s primary responsibilities include managing the operation and maintenance of the vessel’s engineering systems under the Chief Engineer’s supervision, including performing routine and emergency repairs, conducting watches, maintaining logbooks, and ensuring crew safety. Key responsibilities involve maintaining mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems, from propulsion to auxiliary machinery, while also overseeing the engine room operations for both the tug and barge.

Requirements/Qualifications USCG Merchant Mariner Credential, international and national endorsements capable of foreign voyages.

International STCW Endorsements: Officer in charge of an Engineering Watch (STCW III/1), Medical First Aid Provider (STCW A-VI/4-1), Able Seafarer-Engine (STCW III/5), RFPEW (STCW III/4), STCW Basic Safety Training (STCW VI/1), PSC (STCW VI/2), Vessel Personnel with Designated Security Duties (VPDSD) (STCW VI/6)
National Endorsements: Engineering Officer - Assistant Engineer Limited. (3rd Assistant Engineer of Motor Propelled Vessels Unlimited Horsepower preferred), QMED-Any Rating, Lifeboatman, Ordinary Seaman, Wiper, Steward’s Department (F.H.)
Tankerman Assistant, limited to Dangerous Liquid (DL) Cargoes PIC endorsement is preferred
Must hold a valid USCG/STCW medical certificate.
Must hold a valid TWIC card and a U.S. Passport
Familiarity with EMD’s and Detroit Generators is preferred.
