Duties
- Assist with boat handling, navigation, and maintenance to ensure smooth vessel operations during fishing trips.
- Perform heavy lifting tasks such as hauling nets, crates, and equipment safely and efficiently.
- Collect biological samples, conduct dissection, and perform biological sampling to monitor fish populations and health.
- Handle fish with care during sorting, grading, and storage processes to maintain quality standards.
- Maintain equipment including cleaning, repairs, and routine inspections to ensure operational readiness.
- Follow strict safety protocols at all times, including wearing protective gear and participating in safety drills.
- Support environmental compliance by understanding and adhering to fishing regulations, wildlife identification guidelines, and environmental law requirements.
- Contribute to data collection efforts related to fish catch volumes, species identification, and habitat conditions using GIS (Geographic Information Systems) tools when applicable.
- Assist with animal husbandry tasks at hatcheries or aquaculture facilities as needed.
- Perform outdoor work in varying weather conditions while maintaining a high level of physical activity throughout shifts.
Qualifications
- Prior experience in outdoor work environments such as farming, aquaculture, or wildlife management is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of boat handling, mechanical systems, and basic math skills for operational tasks.
- Familiarity with environmental law, wildlife identification, and biological sampling techniques.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and handle animal care responsibilities with compassion.
- Experience with equipment maintenance, dissection procedures, or fish hatchery operations is a plus.
- Strong attention to safety protocol adherence and ability to work effectively in team settings on moving vessels.
- Basic understanding of GIS tools for field data collection is advantageous but not required.
- Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions for extended periods while maintaining physical stamina.
- Demonstrated interest or background in agriculture or animal husbandry enhances suitability for this role.
