Overview
Responsible for day-to-day maintenance and repairs of Kirby Inland Marine vessel fleet.
Responsibilities
- Set up vessels for repairs or major dry-docking and oversee repairs.
- Monitor shipyard costs and negotiate prices deemed necessary.
- Input all costs on major jobs.
- Track job costs against budget and approval limits.
- Review priority reports and oversee repairs that are needed.
- Conduct quarterly maintenance audit of Kirby vessels and price out any needed repairs found for the next year’s budget.
- Set up vendors or in-house mechanics to perform maintenance and/or repairs and track completion of repairs. Assist charter boats when requested.
- Complete work orders on needed repairs and assigned vendors.
- Assist on special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to make decisions and exercise good judgement.
- Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds; climb aboard and move around vessels; climb 90-degree vertical ladders.
- Ability to operate standard office equipment, personal computer, and company vehicles.
Education/ Experience:
High school diploma or GED.
2-3 years field experience in the marine transportation industry.
Working Conditions:
On-call 7 days a week / 24 hours per day every four weeks to take care of any maintenance issues that may arise after hours or on weekends.
