Newt Marine Service, a reliable fixture in the Upper Mississippi marine service industry, is looking for a Tow Boat Pilot for the Missouri River. Pilots are responsible for the overall safety of the crew, barge, tow and cargo during their watch. Competitive pay rate.

Job Description:
- Temporary position - July through October 2026.
- Operates towboats with barges.
- Commands towboat to push rock/sand and/or equipment barges on the Missouri River (MM 120 - 260).
- 5 days per week, 10-12 hours per day.
- Base pay rate $38-$40/hr plus fringe rate $28-$30/hr (rate based on county)
- Commands workers on deck to rig towlines to barges.
- Determines course towing speed on basis of specialized knowledge of local winds, weather, and current.
- Steers towboat to push or pull barges to destination, avoiding hazards to shipping.
- Computes position, sets course, and determines speed, using charts, area plotting sheets, navigation devices, like radar, sonic depth finder, & other aids to navigation.
- Inspects vessel to ensure safety of crew, efficient and safe operation of vessel and equipment, and conformance to regulations.
- Maintains records of daily activities, movements, and prepares progress and personnel reports, and other required documentation.
- Assists crew with repairs and maintenance of towboats.
- Other duties as assigned.

What We Require:
· High School Diploma or Equivalent
· Valid U.S. Coast Guard License for Master (Pilot) of Towing Vessels with Inland and Western Rivers Endorsement
· Valid Driver’s License
· Ability to employ all safety practices and manage risk
· Experience operating towboats on the Missouri River
