Assistant Port Engineer

The Assistant Port Engineer supports the Port Engineer in the technical management, maintenance, and regulatory readiness of assigned MARAD vessels. The position focuses on maintaining vessel records, tracking maintenance and repairs, preparing reports, and assisting with vessel and shipyard activities. This role works under the direction of the Port Engineer.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• Maintain and update vessel maintenance, repair, equipment, and inspection records in Company technical management systems.
• Track preventative maintenance, outstanding repairs, deficiencies, inspections, surveys, and corrective actions.
• Assist with preparing repair specifications, work lists, maintenance schedules, and technical reports.
• Maintain required USCG, ABS, MARAD, and other regulatory documentation and certification records.
• Assist with tracking repair costs, purchase orders, spare parts, vendor information, and technical documentation.
• Coordinate with vessel personnel, vendors, shipyards, and Company departments as directed by the Port Engineer.
• Assist with vessel repairs, dry-dock periods, inspections, activations, and deactivations as needed.
• Review vessel records and technical information for accuracy and completeness.
• Support Company safety, quality, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Experience with vessel maintenance, marine engineering, ship repair, or technical vessel management preferred.
• Experience with ABS NS-E/NS-5 or similar vessel maintenance systems strongly preferred.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and SharePoint.
• Strong organizational, data management, and recordkeeping skills with excellent attention to detail.
• Working knowledge of vessel machinery, technical manuals, drawings, and maintenance practices preferred.
• Ability to work independently while taking direction from the Port Engineer.
• Must possess or be eligible to obtain a DOD-granted SECRET security clearance .

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering, Maritime Studies, Engineering Technology, or a related field preferred. Relevant shipboard, shipyard, vessel maintenance, or marine technical experience may be considered in place of a degree.

Work Environment

Work is primarily performed in an office environment with periodic vessel, shipyard, and dry-dock visits. Employees must follow all applicable Company and site safety requirements while onboard vessels or in shipyard environments.
