Position Summary
SPOC Grid Inverter Technologies is a leader in power conversion, hybridization, and
electrification solutions for marine vessels and energy applications. Rooted in our Lift Up
culture, we believe in empowering people, building strong partnerships, and doing work
that makes a positive impact.
We are seeking a Senior Application Engineer with a strong background in power
electronics, VFDs, and system integration to join our Marine team. In this role, you will
serve as the technical bridge between customers, sales, and engineering—designing and
supporting solutions that improve vessel efficiency, reduce emissions, and optimize hybrid
energy systems.
You will work collaboratively with shipyards, vessel operators, naval architects, offshore
energy developers, and industrial clients, delivering solutions powered by SPOC
technology. Through every project, you will exemplify Lift Up values: serving with humility,
communicating with clarity, and supporting those around you so that we collectively
succeed.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate closely with sales, engineering, and product teams to provide technical
expertise, fostering a positive, high-trust working environment.
- Evaluate vessel specifications, project requirements, and electrical one-line
diagrams to recommend tailored, reliable solutions.
- Design integrated power system architectures using VFDs, inverters, energy storage,
and controls.
- Develop technical proposals including system drawings, functional design
documents, and cost/benefit analyses.
- Deliver presentations, product demonstrations, and training for customers,
integrators, and shipyard personnel with clarity, professionalism, and a Lift Up
service mindset.
- Provide technical support during installation, commissioning, and sea trials,
ensuring a smooth, positive customer experience.
- Assist in diagnosing and troubleshooting system-level issues involving hybrid power,
propulsion, and energy management.
- Create application notes, case studies, and white papers that showcase SPOC’s
technology in real-world scenarios.
- Stay informed on ABS, DNV, USCG, IEEE, IEC, and other relevant regulatory
standards.
- Monitor industry trends and competitor offerings to support continuous
improvement.
- Gather customer feedback and communicate insights that help guide product
development and enhance our solutions.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Marine Engineering, or a related field
(Master’s preferred), or 10+ years of marine industry experience focused on electric
power and propulsion systems.
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in application engineering, technical sales, or
system integration.
- Experience in marine electrification, offshore energy, power conversion, or
industrial automation strongly preferred.
Technical Skills
- Strong understanding of variable frequency drives (VFDs), inverters, and hybrid
energy systems.
- Familiarity with marine system architecture including generators, switchboards,
transformers, propulsion motors, thrusters, PMS, DP systems, and hybrid
configurations.
- Ability to read and create electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and
integration drawings.
- General understanding of generator controls, protective relays, switchgear, and
energy storage systems.
- Experience with design tools such as AutoCAD, Visio, Matlab/Simulink, or
equivalent.
Soft Skills
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, capable of making complex
concepts accessible to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong customer-first mindset, with a commitment to problem-solving and
respectful, solutions-oriented interactions.
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
- Strong organizational and documentation skills.
- A collaborative spirit aligned with our Lift Up culture—supporting teammates,
sharing knowledge, and elevating the people around you.
