Overview

Duties
- Diagnose and troubleshoot issues with inboard marine engines using schematics, technical manuals, and diagnostic tools such as ohmmeters and multimeters.
- Perform routine maintenance including oil changes, filter replacements, belt adjustments, and system inspections to ensure optimal engine performance.
- Repair or replace engine components such as pistons, valves, fuel injectors, and electrical wiring.
- Conduct electrical system diagnostics involving soldering, wiring repairs, and testing with precision measuring instruments to resolve electrical faults.
- Interpret schematics and technical diagrams accurately to facilitate repairs or assembly tasks on complex marine propulsion systems.
- Maintain detailed service records, logs, and reports; communicate effectively with service writers about repairs needed and maintenance schedules so that it can be communicated to customers.
- Assist with heavy lifting tasks involving engine components or equipment using proper rigging techniques to ensure safety and efficiency.
Experience
- Proven service technician experience working on marine or automotive engines or similar mechanical systems; familiarity with inboard (GM and Ford V8) engines is highly preferred.
- Strong mechanical knowledge complemented by hands-on experience with assembly, fabrication, and the use of hand tools and power tools.
- Electrical experience including wiring repairs, soldering techniques, schematics interpretation, and troubleshooting electrical faults using ohmmeters or similar instruments.
- Experience working with heavy machinery or vehicle maintenance enhances your ability to handle large engine components safely.
- Knowledge of military standards or experience working in disciplined environments can be advantageous for maintaining high safety and quality standards.
- Customer service skills are essential for explaining repairs clearly and ensuring client satisfaction throughout the service process.
- Ability to perform precision measurements using calipers and other instruments to ensure accurate assembly and repair work.
