Job Summary
Prince William Sound Seiner:
ISO: Two Deckhands. Season runs from May 15- September 10th. Two weeks of yard work based out of Homer AK, fishing grounds in Prince William Sound for the rest of the time.
Hard working, proven catch record vessel. Mechanically sound, comfortable, well maintained 48 foot Roberts. Returning crew is a skiff man with 10+ years of experience, extremely skilled deckhand.
We're looking for two individuals who are looking to be part of a well oiled team. Fishing experience is a plus, but I value work ethic, attitude, and a willingness to try their best every day over a poor work ethic, experienced deckhand. Looking to build a group of guys that are ready to go to battle together, but also want to enjoy the experience and have fun with the process. Pay is experience/attitude dependent. If you haven't had time on the water, you need to have manual labor and are ideally mechanically inclined. Time spent in remote camps is a plus, ideally you have spent time in outdoor environments and have some understanding of problem solving with limited resources.
Duties
- responsible for stacking cork or leadline, extremely physically demanding work as many as 20 times a day
- Perform routine mechanical inspections and maintenance to keep equipment in top condition
- Support crew members with docking, mooring, and navigation tasks
- share cooking duties with other two deckhands, responsible for preparing a meal on a rotating schedule.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of decks and common areas to promote safety and comfort
- Respond promptly to onboard emergencies or safety concerns following established protocols
- This a round the clock job; must be of sound and able mind at all times and able to respond to any situation that arises in order to maintain the safety of the crew and ship in a complex marine environment.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of rigging techniques and mechanical systems on boats or ships
- Ability to perform basic mechanical repairs and troubleshooting
- Knowledge of safety procedures, emergency protocols, and maritime regulations
- Physical stamina and fitness to be able to quickly stack gear and get the net back multiple times a day
- Effective communication skills to coordinate with crew members and interact with guests
- ability to stay calm in stressful situations, as well as an ability to maintain awareness and keep yourself safe in dangerous situations.
Pay: $10,000.00 - $50,000.00 per year
