Job Summary
Watco's New Johnsonville Terminal handles a variety of commodities. As a Deckhand, you will assist with removing and resetting barge covers, climbing in and out of barges, and operating a skid steer to move materials.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Must maintain regular, dependable attendance and a high level of performance
- Ability to work outside the majority of the time and withstand extreme weather conditions
- Ability to use ladders to access barges
- Ability to work near water
- Remove and reset barge covers
- Secure and assist in moving barges as needed
- Communicate with other team members using a two-way radio
- Follow written and verbal directions to complete assigned tasks on schedule
- Read, write, and communicate in English & understand basic math
- Learn from directions, observations, and mistakes and apply procedures using good judgment
- Working knowledge of Watco Safety and Operating principles
- The primary function of the Deckhand is to assist personnel in safely and effectively performing all required duties/tasks by maintaining all mechanical operations at the transload stations
- Perform structural inspections as required
- Monitor equipment for SAFETY and ENVIRONMENTAL compliance
- Perform maintenance on all equipment
- Responsible for the operation as it relates to pipelines, compressors, auxiliary equipment, engines, pump stations, pumps, valves, and other related equipment
- Ensure the cost-effective and efficient performance of all engines, pumps, and associated equipment at the compressor stations and pipelines
- Complete required inspections per shift
- Complete all applicable documentation and recordkeeping
- Provide support to supervisor as needed
- Front-line customer service
- Must be able to work with a team, take direction and follow work rules, as well as take on additional job responsibilities as needed or assigned
- Flexibility required; ability to work days, nights, weekends, holidays
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- General knowledge of tools and mechanical background preferred
- A Valid Drivers License is preferred but not required for this position
