JOB DESCRIPTION:
A Marine Service Technician is a specialist responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical, electrical, and propulsion systems on various watercraft, including recreational boats, commercial ships, and personal watercraft. They are often described as the "doctors" of the boating world, ensuring vessels operate safely and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
Technicians perform a wide range of tasks to keep vessels sea-ready:
Diagnostics & Troubleshooting: Use specialized tools and software to identify root causes of engine, electrical, or hydraulic failures.
Engine Maintenance: Service and repair inboard, outboard, and diesel engines, including oil changes, fluid checks, and overhauls.
System Installation: Install and configure navigation systems (GPS, radar), communication devices, and marine electronics.
Mechanical Repairs: Fix steering mechanisms, propulsion systems, propellers, and hydraulic components.
Electrical & Plumbing: Maintain and repair onboard AC/DC electrical systems, plumbing, and sanitation systems.
Hull & Exterior: Inspect and repair hulls, remove barnacles, and apply paint, wax, or gel coats.
Sea Trials: Conduct operational tests on the water to verify that repairs and installations are functioning correctly.
Customer Service: Advise clients on technical issues, provide repair recommendations, and maintain detailed service records.
