Job Summary
Join the crew of the Clipper City, New York City’s largest sailing vessel. We are looking for hardworking, reliable deckhands with a passion for traditional sailing. This is a physically demanding role that requires technical skill, a focus on safety, and excellent hospitality skills while engaging with our guests on the harbor.
Key Responsibilities
Sail Handling: Proficient in raising and lowering sails, trimming, and executing maneuvers on a large gaff-rigged schooner.
Rigging & Maintenance: Assist with ongoing maintenance of the vessel, including lines, blocks, standing/running rigging, and general ship upkeep (cleaning, painting, sanding).
Vessel Operations: Assist with docking, undocking, and lookout duties as directed by the Captain or Mate.
Guest Interaction: Provide a high level of customer service, assist passengers with boarding/disembarking, and answer questions about the vessel and NYC harbor.
Safety: Maintain a constant vigil for passenger safety and be prepared to execute emergency procedures if necessary.
Requirements
Sailing Experience: Prior experience on sailboats is required; experience on traditional or tall ships is a significant plus.
Technical Skills: Must have a solid understanding of rigging and basic maritime knots.
Availability: Must be able to work weekends and holidays, as these are our busiest sailing times.
Communication: Strong verbal communication skills and a team-player attitude.
Pay: From $17.00 per hour
