Job Description: The Marine Mechanic is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and installing mechanical systems on a variety of vessels. This includes work on diesel engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, propulsion systems, and auxiliary shipboard machinery. The role requires advanced technical skills, adherence to shipyard safety practices and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair marine engines, transmissions/drives, and generators.
- Perform diagnostics and repairs on plumbing, fuel, lube oil, and water systems.
- Install, maintain, and repair hydraulic and pneumatic equipment.
- Service propulsion and steering systems, including propellers, rudders, pumps, and shaft seals.
- Maintain, repair, and install shipboard machinery such as cranes, davits, winches, and valves.
- Work with condensers, heat exchangers, and cooling systems.
- Utilize test equipment, read blueprints, and perform advanced layout work.
- Follow shipyard safety practices and maintain knowledge of vessel terminology.
- Ensure work areas remain clean, organized, and safe.
- Maintain professionalism with coworkers, subcontractors, and clients.
- Complete projects with strong attention to quality control and timely delivery.
- Work in and navigate confined spaces, as well as indoor/outdoor environments with exposure to changing weather conditions.
- Be flexible with working hours, including potential overtime, to support project timelines.
Wage is dependent upon experience.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 2 years of marine experience (required).
- Minimum 5 years of mechanical experience (required).
- Knowledge of ABS, ABYC, NAVSEA, and Lloyd’s Regulations (preferred).
