Job Summary Overview: The Mechanic assists the Port Engineer and Port Captain, ensuring all marine vessels remain in compliance with applicable hull and machinery regulatory requirements. The Mechanic will be required to perform routine maintenance requirements and repairs on a fleet of tugs, crew boats, barges and yard equipment as directed.
Major Responsibilities: Perform duties as assigned by the Purchasing & Maintenance Scheduler, Port Engineer, and/or Port Captain. Communicate with Vessel Operations team, vessel crews and team members regarding condition of equipment and needed maintenance/repairs. Conduct maintenance and repairs on all vessel and yard equipment on site. Perform emergency repairs on vessels as required; includes after hours and on weekends as needed. Maintain the confidentiality of all sensitive communications. Perform manual labor including maintenance to facility. Loading and unloading of boats. Keeping yard clean and organized. Job Requirements: 5+ years of experience Established diesel engine and mechanical skills and/or certification; Knowledge of marine vessel systems and equipment; Basic electrical/hydraulic/pneumatic/pipefitting skills; Experience in maintaining tugs and barges preferred; Ability to repair marine equipment on site under adverse conditions; Ability to work aboard boats and barges using heavy lines, winches, and mechanical tools for repairs; Welding certification and experience preferred Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions; Ability to deal with others using courtesy, tact, and good judgment; First Aid and CPR training preferred. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office. High School Diploma, GED or equivalent. Must be able to read, speak, write, type, and understand English in person and over the telephone. U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner’s Document preferred. Previous experience maintaining marine related equipment. Current Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC). Ability to work out of town for extended periods of up to 2 weeks; shipyard periods may require longer periods. Valid drivers license.
Physical Requirements: Carrying/Lifting Maximum of 75 lbs with or without assistance. Standing Maximum Standing up to 10 hours. Sitting Up to 8 hours per day. Walking Maximum Walking. Climbing Up to 8 hours per day, ascending or descending ladders, stairs, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body Agility is emphasized. Repetitive Motion Maximum up to 8 hours per day. Visual Acuity View & read with or without corrective devices. Environmental Exposure Changing weather and changing sea conditions; sunny, rainy, turbulent Weather; Ability to board vessel in rough weather. Odors, dust, dirt, mechanical hazards, high noise levels, and other potentially hazardous equipment.
Pay: $21.00 - $25.00 per hour
