Gator Dredging - Marine / Boat Mechanic Position
This position at Gator Dredging is responsible for performing maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, and installations on a variety of vessels in an accurate and timely manner. As a Marine / Boat Mechanic, you will play a critical role in ensuring that all boats and marine equipment are in excellent working condition. This position will be based out of our Yard / Shop located at 1401 Lake Ave SE, Largo, FL 33771. We are only seeking local applicants and can travel when necessary, on a weekly basis. You must have a minimum of 3 years' experience in the marine maintenance field.
Job Responsibilities for the Marine / Boat Mechanic:
- Perform maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, and upgrades on a variety of boats in a timely, competent, and professional manner.
- Must be able to service and perform maintenance outboard engines, inboard engines, inboard-outboard engines, boat steering systems, plumbing, propellers and boat trailers.
- Coordinate with shop and field supervisors to service vessels and minimize down time.
- Accurately document all service work performed, including parts used, labor hours, and other important details
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment. Ensure all safety protocols are being followed when performing work to promote a safe working environment.
- Attend applicable service schools to maintain certification and continuous educational requirements. Stay updated on trends, tools and technologies related to work.
- Must be comfortable repairing marine craft indoors and/or outdoors in all types of weather.
Qualifications for the Marine / Boat Mechanic:
- You must have at least 3 years of experience in the marine maintenance field.
- Experience servicing diesel and gasoline engines to include, Cummins, John Deere, Detroit, Suzuki, and Yamaha.
- General knowledge of the following: 12V DC electrical systems, Vessel running gear (removal of propeller, shaft, rudder, water lubricated bearings, and coupling), marine transmission installation/removal, and service, and rigging outboard engines.
- Candidate must be willing to travel to different projects when necessary, on a weekly basis.
- Paying strong attention to detail is a requirement for marine mechanics.
- Must be responsible and careful in their work to prevent injuries and equipment damage.
- It is Required to have a reliable transportation to and from work and maintain a valid Driver's license throughout employment.
- In addition, marine mechanics must have solid written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Education Field of Study: Marine mechanics in small & large engine repair
- Certifications are a plus. Examples: OSHA, Marine Specialist, Diesel Technology, Automotive Technology.
Physical Demands/Work Environment for the Marine / Boat Mechanic:
- Physical/Sensory Functions: Regularly will use sit, use hands, talk/hear; Frequently will reach with hands; Occasionally will stand, walk, climb, or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, taste/smell.
- Lift and/or Move Functions: Regularly will lift-up to 10 pounds; Frequently will lift up to 25 pounds; Occasionally will lift up to 50 pounds.
