Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Marine Mechanic to join our dynamic team dedicated to maintaining and repairing a diverse fleet of marine vessels. This energetic role requires a motivated individual with a passion for marine technology, mechanical systems, and hands-on problem-solving. As a Marine Mechanic, you will be responsible for diagnosing issues, performing repairs, and ensuring the safety and optimal performance of our vessels. Your expertise will help keep our fleet operating smoothly, efficiently, and safely in all conditions.
Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough inspections of marine vessels using schematics, technical manuals, and precision measuring instruments to identify mechanical, electrical, and structural issues.
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on engines, propulsion systems, electrical wiring, rigging, sheet metal components, and other vessel systems.
- Utilize hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, soldering irons, calipers, ohmmeters, and fabrication tools to execute repairs with precision.
- Interpret schematics and electrical diagrams to troubleshoot complex electrical systems and ensure proper wiring and component functionality.
- Engage in heavy lifting and rigging operations safely while maintaining compliance with safety protocols.
- Fabricate or modify parts using sheet metal work or welding techniques to meet specific vessel requirements.
- Assist in assembly or disassembly of mechanical components during maintenance or upgrades while providing excellent customer service to vessel operators.
- Maintain detailed records of repairs, maintenance activities, and inspections for compliance and quality assurance purposes.
- Support sales efforts by providing technical expertise on vessel features or repair options when interacting with clients or vendors.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a service technician or mechanic within the marine industry or related fields such as heavy equipment or vehicle maintenance.
- Strong mechanical knowledge complemented by electrical experience and familiarity with schematics.
- Hands-on proficiency with hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, soldering devices, calipers, sheet metal fabrication tools, and precision measuring instruments like micrometers.
- Experience working with electrical systems using ohmmeters and troubleshooting wiring issues effectively.
- Knowledge of rigging techniques for lifting heavy components safely during repairs or installations.
- Ability to read technical manuals and schematics accurately; military background is a plus for discipline and technical training.
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate complex technical information clearly.
- Physical capability for heavy lifting and working in confined or outdoor environments under various weather conditions.
- Demonstrated ability to perform maintenance tasks efficiently while adhering to safety standards; experience with vehicle maintenance is advantageous.
