Job Description:
The position conduct duties as able bodied seaman and is responsible for the overall operation, maintenance, and repair of engines, deck machinery, electrical, sanitary and other systems aboard Company vessels including but not limited to Calypso Malolo and Quicksilver. Position works Friday-Monday.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Primary duties and responsibilities include (but not limited to):
- Conduct duties as able bodied seaman in normal daily navigation and engine operation, including:
- Handle lines to moor vessels to dock or snorkel sites.
- Maintain vessels such as sweeping, washing and cleaning decks, entire vessel and equipment.
- Stand lookout while vessel is underway or in the harbor.
- Load, unload, organize and maintain supplies.
- Operate or assist with emergency equipment such as lifeboats and life vests.
- Monitor and test vessel engines, machinery, and equipment indicators and correct deficits.
- Maintain electrical power, heating, ventilation, water, or sanitary and other systems aboard vessel.
- Maintain or repair vessel engines, electric motors, pumps, winches, or other mechanical or electrical equipment and direct other crew members with maintenance or repair duties.
- Perform general vessel maintenance or repair work, such as repairing leaks, finishing interiors, refueling, or maintaining decks.
- Fabricate vessel engines and other replacement parts using power and hand tools.
- Schedule, order, maintain and disburse inventory and supplies related to job functions.
- Perform or participate in emergency drills, as required.
- Comply with the industry and Company safety standards.
- Maintain accurate records in support of job functions.
- Support Company personnel and perform related duties as requested by management.
Abilities include (but not limited to):
- Able bodied seaman.
- Stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, twist, turn kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk, and hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move more than 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and depth perception.
- Employee is frequently exposed to frequently changing weather, wind and ocean conditions that may cause the seas to become rough and unpredictable, high winds, pitching and rolling of vessels, wet and/or slippery surfaces, decks, ladders, stairs, steps and/or railings; uneven surfaces, shifting/moving surfaces, fall/tip hazards, currents/surges/waves, mooring lines/equipment, moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to occasionally loud.
- Kneeling, stooping and working in cramped and uncomfortable positions.
- Ability to carry out instruction and efficiently work with minimal or no supervision.
Minimum Qualifications:
Drivers license and good driving record.
Currently live on Maui (or in Hawaii) preferred.
Proficient with marine engines and use of tools and safety systems. Ability to stand for up to 8 hours. Strong attention to detail. Solid manual dexterity, good hand-eye coordination and physically fit. Employee must have solid repair skills. In addition, employee must have solid written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
