Overview

The primary responsibility of the Wheelman (Relief Captain or Pilot) is to safely support Magnolia Fleet Operations.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the deck crew follow all company policies while on watch.
• Carry out the Master’s orders.
• Report any significant safety or operational issues to the Master immediately.
• Take steps to operate the vessel in a safe and prudent manner.
• Supervise all activities onboard the boat, and when possible—the barge, while on watch.
• Complete all required computer-based training as assigned.
• The Wheelman has the authority to carry out the position’s duties as needed.
• The responsibilities outlined above do not entirely encompass or define all tasks which may be required of the position holder. The outline of responsibilities given above may, therefore, vary from time to time without materially changing either the character or level of responsibility of the position.

Qualifications

• Must meet “fit for duty” requirements upon job offer (pre-employment physical and drug test)
• The employee must meet physical requirements including, but not limited to, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing up/down ladders and stairs, negotiating uneven and moving surfaces
• Must be able to work in difficult conditions with exposure to all weather conditions (rain, ice, snow, wind, heat, etc.)
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
• Must have a minimum US Coast guard license of Mate of Towing upon Inland Waters and Western Rivers with no Tonnage restriction.
• Must have valid Medical Certificate
• Must have a valid TWIC.
• Must have a valid/current driver’s license.
• Must be able to work various hours/holidays/weekends.
