Description of Work

This is work in the maintenance and repair of diesel engines and other marine equipment in the Department of Transportation, Ferry Division. Assignments are received from a Marine Mechanic Supervisor. Employees perform tasks ranging from general and routine assignments to those of moderate complexity requiring the application of knowledge and ability acquired from on-the-job training dealing with ferry vessels. Guidance and instruction in the principles and techniques involved are provided by a marine mechanic, adjusting the degree of supervision given to employees based on the scope and difficulty of the assignment. This position also assists other entities in the Ferry Division and may require overnight travel. The employee must be able to legally operate a motor vehicle. All other duties as required by the supervisor.

Offer of employment will be contingent upon successful completion of NCDOT and Ferry Division’s drug and Fit-For-Duty tests.

Salary Grade and Salary Range: NC08 - $39,244 - $68,679

Minimum Education and Experience

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and three years of progressive experience in the repair of diesel and gasoline engines, transmissions, hydraulic, air and electric systems, and components, preferably in the ship repair or shipbuilding industry; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
