Job Summary
We are looking for a hands-on Marine Port Engineer to handle maintenance, repair & operational readiness of our fleet of commercial vessels. This role is ideal for someone with strong marine mechanical experience who enjoys solving problems, working with crews & managing vessel repairs. You will work directly with our other Port Engineers, vessel crews & shipyards & vendors to ensure our vessels stay safe, reliable & operational ready. If you have experience with marine diesels, preferably Volvo Penta, Detroit, MTU, Aluminum Welding & fitting experience, this is an excellent opportunity to take pride in our fleet.

Duties

• Assist in diagnosing and repairing marine engines, hydraulic systems, and port machinery to include crane & forklift repairs.
• Assist with general maintenance of a fleet of 8 vessels
• Aluminum welding projects, including fabrication, assembly, and repair of marine structures and components, to include handrail repairs, hull plating repairs, exhaust fitting & repair, to name a few.
• Use hand tools, power tools, calipers, soldering equipment, and precision measuring instruments to perform maintenance tasks accurately.
• Conduct routine inspections of diesel engines, electrical systems, and heavy equipment to ensure optimal performance.
• Inspect Vessels to ensure USCG compliance & oversee all USCG exams.
• Maintain records of vessel repairs & service schedule.
• Manage vendors to ensure quality of workmanship.
• Participate in rigging operations for lifting and positioning heavy parts or machinery safely and efficiently
• Follow safety protocols during maintenance activities involving heavy lifting, welding, or electrical work
• Fill in as boat deck crew if needed.

Preferred Skills

• Excellent Aluminum Welding experience & fabrication.
• Diesel Mechanics experience, preferably with Volvo Penta, MTU, Detroit
• Strong troubleshooting skills
• Knowledge of marine gear, such as shafts, struts, props, etc.
• Basic electrical experience including troubleshooting with ohmmeters and wiring diagrams
• Knowledge of mechanical systems such as engines, hydraulics, and rigging techniques
• Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, soldering equipment, calipers, and heavy lifting techniques
• Experience with heavy machinery is a plus
• Fabrication skills including sheet metal work and aluminum & stainless welding using various welding techniques (e.g., MIG/TIG)
• Ability to communicate clearly with team members and supervisors

Physical Demands

Technician roles are physically demanding and require prolonged periods of standing and/or walking. Occasional heavy lifting and pushing/pulling objects weighing up to 50 pounds (or more) may be required. While performing the duties of this job, the Technician will frequently use hands to manipulate and grasp objects; reach with hands and arms; climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, bend, stretch, or twist to perform repairs and inspections. Good vision to inspect repair work and effective communication are essential. Must be able to work safely in a noisy area with many odors present. A technician may work in areas with temperature and/or humidity extremes.

Requirements

All applicants must be able to pass pre-employment & random DOT Drug testing required by USCG. Hourly rate based on experience, bi-weekly pay, direct deposit. Applicants must have reliable transportation, show up on time & be ready to work upon arrival. Applicants must be willing to work nights & or weekends in the event crucial repairs are needed.
