Job Summary:
A Tankerman is responsible for the safe transfer of liquid cargo to and from vessels and barges, as well as performing preventive maintenance tasks. This position will also assist with deckhand duties and other operational needs as required. The work schedule follows a 5-day rotation: 5 days (5 a.m.–5 p.m.), 5 nights (5 p.m.–5 a.m.), followed by 5 days off. This is not a live-on position, so candidates must reside within commuting distance of Paducah, KY.
What you’ll do:
- Complete transfer of liquid cargo to/from the vessel through application/removal of hoses via fittings/seals and opening/closing of valves.
- Move pumps and hoses about barges and place hoses in wing tank/void for removal of water.
- Complete processes to allow the vessel to take on fuel.
- Monitor liquid cargo transfer levels by peering through Site Glass and checking gauge points.
- Deliver supplies to vessels and remove trash from vessels.
- Complete periodic maintenance duties in the engine room.
- Transport and tie lock lines.
- Complete daily and periodic cleaning tasks to include but not limited to trash removal, mopping, scraping, sanding and painting.
- Safely move about the vessel requiring the traverse of slick/unstable surfaces and participate in emergency response procedures per the United States Coastguard established physical standards.
- Assist with additional shipyard duties as assigned, including filling in as a deckhand when needed.
What you’ll need:
- Possess a valid Tankerman License/PIC or be working towards obtaining one.
- Possess The Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) from the Transportation Security Administration.
- Ability to safely and successfully perform any/all essential job functions.
- Ability to meet and maintain all qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
- Ability to maintain reasonably regular and punctual attendance.
- Compliance with all personnel policies and practices.
- Ability to work alone for extended periods and in teams.
