Waterhorse Charters is a kindness-certified ecotourism company based in San Diego. We run scuba, snorkeling, and bay cruise charters with a strong focus on safety, kindness, marine conservation, and outstanding guest service.
We’re hiring a versatile crew member to serve as both Deckhand and Tour Guide across all our different charters.
What You’ll Do
- Prepare for, conduct, and break down scuba diving, snorkeling, wildlife watching, and bay cruise charters
- Serve as deckhand during trips, supporting captains and ensuring smooth, safe operations
- Guide certified divers at local dive sites
- If an instructor, teach primarily boat-based dive courses (minimal pool or shore sessions)
- Assist with guest check-in, waivers, boarding, and trip logistics
- Deliver clear safety briefings and manage all required paperwork
- Answer guest questions and handle on-board situations with professionalism and empathy
- Clean, organize, and restock boats and shop after each trip
- Care for boats and diving equipment to keep everything in top condition
Who You Are
- Certified SCUBA Divemaster or Instructor (any major agency)
- Comfortable on boats; 2+ years boating experience preferred
- Available for early mornings, most weekends (both days), and some weekdays
- Welcoming with people and committed to guest safety and experience
- Positive, accountable, and team-oriented
- Physically able to lift gear and work in varied weather conditions
You’ll Stand Out If
- 3+ years in the dive industry
- Working toward or already hold a USCG Captain’s License
- Familiar with San Diego dive sites and dive boat operations
- Current First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications
This Role Is Not For You If
- You are not a certified SCUBA Divemaster or Instructor
- You avoid responsibility or say “that’s not my job”
- You want a fixed Monday–Friday schedule
- You cannot work weekends
- You don't like the idea of seasonality
- You are not comfortable with physical work or direct guest interaction

Pay: $20.00 - $35.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 – 40 per week
