Detroit Charter Company is seeking a reliable and detail oriented Marine Mechanic to support the maintenance, repair, and overall performance of its fleet of sailing yachts and powerboats. This role plays a critical part in ensuring vessels are safe, compliant, and operating at peak performance throughout the charter season. The Marine Mechanic will work closely with captains and crew to diagnose issues, perform preventative maintenance, and prepare vessels for daily operations.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance on inboard and outboard engines, electrical systems, and marine equipment
- Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues and complete timely repairs
- Conduct pre charter and post charter vessel inspections
- Maintain and repair propulsion systems, steering systems, and onboard systems
- Keep accurate service records and maintenance logs for all vessels
- Ensure all work complies with safety and regulatory standards
- Coordinate with captains and crew to address operational concerns
- Manage tools, parts inventory, and order necessary supplies
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Formal training or certification in marine mechanics or related field preferred
- Proven experience working with marine engines and vessel systems
- Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues efficiently
- Comfortable working in outdoor and marine environments
- Ability to lift heavy equipment and perform physically demanding tasks
