Expertise and experience to provide technical solutions and project management for our clients in all aspects of Marine Electrical Engineering. Works independently (with minimal supervision) and leads / manages other engineers, junior engineers, and designers on project teams. This role requires a deep understanding of marine electrical standards, hands-on experience with shipboard systems, and the ability to manage projects from concept through construction.
Responsibilities:
- Manages assigned engineering projects, including engineering and drafting personnel, budget, schedule, and technical development.
- Supports Engineering Manager in preparing project estimating, project task lists, budgets, and schedules.
- Prepares and reviews drawings, specifications, complex analyses, and calculations by engineers, junior engineers, and drafting staff to ensure conformance with internal, Client, and regulatory requirements. Should be familiar with Class Rules (ABS, RINA, DNV, USCG, etc.), IEEE, IEC, etc.
- Interacts with Clients on a peer level.
- Establishes and maintains an effective system of communications throughout the organization. Must be able to coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, including naval architects / marine engineers, designers, and various subcontractors.
- Prepares and presents reports for Clients and marine Classification / Regulatory organizations.
- Analyzes new technologies and runs competitive analyses
- Conduct vessel surveys, field inspections, commissioning, and troubleshooting of electrical systems.
- Marine electrical engineering, including, but not limited to:
- Load Analysis
- Equipment Specifications
- One-Line Diagrams
- Short-Circuit Analysis
- Wiring Diagrams
- Cable Routing
- Trip Coordination
- Advance Marine Electrical Analyses such as hybrid technology, diesel electric, and automation.
- Oversee the electrical system aspects of ship construction or ship repair projects.
- Lead the design and specification of shipboard electrical systems including power generation, distribution, lighting, automation, and communication systems.
- Prepares or reviews recommendations for repair work to ships.
- Review and approve vendor drawings and technical documentation.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Education/Experience:
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in marine engineering or electrical engineering, or equivalent
- At least 8-10 years direct industry experience.
- Language Ability:
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
- Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to a prescribed style and format.
- Reasoning Ability:
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Computer Skills:
- To perform this job successfully, an individual should have proficiency in the following:
- Microsoft Office Suite
- AutoCAD, Rhino, or similar CAD tools. Knowledge of AutoCAD Electrical a plus.
- Electrical analysis software such as SKM PowerTools, ETAP, etc.
- Certificates and Licenses:
- Professional Engineer (PE) License strongly desired
- Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Supervises engineers and draftsman on various engineering jobs.
- Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
- Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Training / Mentoring employees
- Planning, assigning, and directing work.

- This job typically takes place in an office environment, but will occasionally involve onsite work in shipyards, terminals, and other industrial environments. Travel / Onsite work is typically about 5-15% of the job.

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee will occasionally work in high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outdoor weather conditions; risk of electrical shock and vibration.
