Responsibilities:
The responsibilities of the Able Bodied Seaman / Ordinary Seaman will include, but not be limited to the following:
- Keep the decks and superstructures in a well-maintained condition as instructed by Bosun and Chief Officer
- May also be directed to assume duties on the gangway, bridge or in tender boats
- Part of mooring operations
- Shall always wear protective gear when so required
- Assist the Bosun in training / guiding of lower ranked Deck crew
- The Senior AB is to obtain potable water samples every time bunkering from shore is conducted; samples are then to be given to the Nurse for processing
- Ensures the hoses are connected correctly when taking potable water from shore as well as maintaining the hoses to USPH standards
- Crew part of Watch-keeping team to carry out Swimming pool / Jacuzzi duties as dictated by the Bosun, Bridge officer or other more Senior Officer
- Participate in Tender, Zodiac and Marina operations which will include driving, lowering and securing operations or any other duty as directed by Chief Officer
- OS’s shall always be supervised by an Officer or AB when they are trained in Tender/Zodiac driving
- Deck Crew familiarization form (SMP 411-4)
- It is the responsibility of every crewmember to perform duties according to the Superior Officer’s instruction; the work should be carried out in a safe and professional manner in order to keep the ship’s equipment at the highest level of safe operating condition
- Be familiar with the Safety Management System and have a full understanding of his responsibilities in the Safety Organization as per the Emergency Plan
Qualifications
- Relevant STCW2010 courses up to date
- Fluent in spoken English
- Documented experience from passenger vessels
Physical Requirements
- Able to work 7 days a week for a minimum period for extended period of time.
- While performing the essential functions of this job, all team members are required to stand; walk long distances on the ship; use hands to touch, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk, hear, taste and smell. All vessel positions require repetitive motion of bending, climbing, going up and down stairs and lifting up to 23 kilograms. This job requires specific vision abilities to include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- All team members must be physically able to participate in emergency life saving procedures and drills. All vessel positions require full use and range of arms and legs as well as full visual, verbal and hearing abilities to receive and give instructions in the event of an emergency including the lowering of lifeboats.
- Assist with zodiac landings, Marina days and Expeditions when required.
- Work within different temperature changes—indoors to outdoors.
- Able to pass basic safety course.
