Position Overview
Empire Point Boating Center is seeking a skilled and motivated Marine Technician to lead by example in the service, repair, and maintenance of a wide range of vessels and systems. This role combines hands-on technical expertise with team leadership and a commitment to customer-centered service, safety, and quality.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Technical Diagnostics & Repair
- Conduct, diagnose, service, and repair inboard, outboard (primarily Yamaha, Mercury, Suzuki), I/O, including four-stroke models and MerCruiser.
- Troubleshoot and maintain 12-volt systems, house systems (110/220-volt systems): batteries, wiring, GPS, radar, depth finders, and navigation electronics.
- Perform oil/water changes, impeller replacements, tune-ups, and filter changes; inspect fire suppression systems.
- Diagnose and conduct repairs on propulsion systems, propellers, hulls, plumbing, and onboard systems.
- Execute complete mechanical overhauls: remove/reinstall engines or drives, rebuild major components, and rewire systems.
- Safely operate customers' vessels during diagnostic water testing operations.
Leadership & Oversight
- Mentor junior technicians and ensure repair standards are upheld.
- Prioritize work orders in collaboration with service managers and marina staff to maximize workflow efficiency.
- Respond to all work orders within the pre-determined service time frame.
- Model safety, service quality, and accountability in all operations.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and well-equipped shop environment.
Customer Service & Communication
- Communicate clearly and professionally with customers and employees.
- Record all work performed, parts used, time logs, and notes in service records before the end of each shift, in detail.
- Represent Empire’s values through every customer and employee interaction.
Rigging & New Boat Setup
- Support new product assembly, basic rigging, and warranty work.
- Participate in the sales-to-service handoff process, applying boat delivery procedures and rigging standards.
- Ensure proper documentation of work orders, time entries, and warranty tasks.
Professional Development
- Attend all continued education and training courses provided by manufacturers, dealers, and service companies.
- Stay current with advancements in marine technology, tools, and techniques.
