This Senior Marine Mechanic will diagnose, repair, and maintain a wide range of marine systems, including engines, electrical components, and mechanical equipment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment failures, repair and maintain diesel and gasoline engines, adjust and repair ignition, fuel, electrical, hydraulic and steering systems.
- Assess boat systems and diagnose issues.
- Conduct preventive and other electrical system maintenance as required.
- Perform a full range of skilled boat repair work, such as minor tune-ups, electrical system servicing, repair faulty hydraulic and steering systems, outboard motors overhauls and create estimate for repair costs.
- Be capable of performing repairs in both a shipyard and workshop environment as required.
- Analyzes defects and adjusts or repairs electrical mechanical systems of motors.
- Disassembles and inspects motor for defective parts, using mechanics hand tools and gauges.
- Ability to ensure all technical requirements including quality checks are being performed.
- When necessary, water test unit with customers to verify work performed and to explain the operation of the product.
- Instruct operators in the proper operation and servicing of their equipment

Education:
- High School diploma or GED certificate or equivalent education and experience.
- 5 plus years’ experience on yachts, military, marine ships greater than 80 feet
- Ship repair industry preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Possession of an extensive tool selection required
- Experienced with marine shaft seals / bearings / rudders etc.
- Experience with gas, diesel, inboard, stern drives, outboard engines, marine electrical systems, and plumbing.
- Welding and fabrication experience preferred
- Machining skills a plus
- Ability to work at a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability and tolerance to meet due dates and deadlines and/or time constraints.
- Identify complex problems and review related information to develop and determine solutions.
- The ability to demonstrate high proficiency in these areas.

Physical Requirements:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job are medium/heavy in nature.
- Frequent standing, balancing, walking, climbing ladders or equipment, reaching above shoulder or out in front, manual dexterity, pushing, pulling, kneeling, bending, seeing, hearing and occasionally lowering self into confined spaces, crawling through small openings and working in reclined positions, as needed.
- Physical ability to lift, push, pull and carry 50+ lbs., bend, stoop and climb scaffold and work on elevated work surfaces, beams, ladders, and confined spaces.
- While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel, talk or hear.
- The vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- Works in all areas of the shipyard and on-board ships.
- Hearing warning signals and reading and comprehending safety instructions.
- Must be able to maintain general safety awareness and avoid hazards commonly present in employee’s work area.
