Summary:
The Pressure Vessel Application Engineer supports customer-facing engineering activities related to pressure vessel applications, ensuring compliance with ASME Code and BITZER quality standards. This role collaborates closely with customers, Inside Sales, Customer Service, and internal engineering teams to interpret technical requirements, develop preliminary designs, and prepare engineering documentation. The position is responsible for vessel sizing calculations, mechanical analysis, and preparation of technical proposals. The engineer also maintains accurate engineering documentation and supports sustaining engineering efforts. This role is based at the BITZER factory in Flowery Branch, GA with minimal travel required.
Duties & Tasks
- Work directly with customers to interpret requirements, design conditions, and project specifications.
- Prepare technical proposals, vessel sizing calculations, and preliminary engineering packages.
- Perform mechanical calculations in accordance with ASME Code Section VIII requirements.
- Prepare and provide cost estimates, technical specification sheets, and related documentation to Inside Sales and Customer Service.
- Review, update, and maintain required customer and regulatory submittal documentation.
- Manage engineering documentation, including version control and adherence to established revision processes.
- Support sustaining engineering activities related to pressure vessels and applications.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with manufacturing, quality, and engineering teams to support product execution.
Competencies (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)
- ASME Code Knowledge: Working knowledge of ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Section VIII.
- Engineering Analysis: Ability to apply thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and materials principles.
- Technical Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills for customer-facing and internal collaboration.
- Documentation Management: Ability to maintain accurate engineering records, specifications, and revisions.
- Software Proficiency: Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with CAD tools preferred.
- Problem Solving: Ability to analyze customer requirements and develop compliant, cost-effective engineering solutions.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or related engineering field
- Technical background in HVAC/R or mechanical systems preferred
- Minimum of 2–5 years of engineering or manufacturing experience
- Experience or exposure to pressure vessels and ASME Code strongly preferred
- Knowledge of thermodynamics, heat transfer, HVAC/R systems, fluid mechanics, and materials
Work Environment
- Manufacturing and office environment within a factory setting
- Occasional exposure to shop floor conditions (noise, machinery, temperature variations)
- Use of appropriate PPE may be required when on the production floor
Physical Demands
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk throughout the workday
- Occasional lifting of materials up to 25 lbs
- Ability to access production areas, review equipment, and inspect documentation as needed
