Position Summary
MasterCraft Boat Holdings is seeking a Naval Architect to support the design and development of new and innovative recreational marine products.
The Naval Architect will work cross-functionally with Production, Quality, Customer Service, Sales, and Engineering teams to develop solutions for both current and future products. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong technical fundamentals, problem-solving capability, and the desire to grow within a marine engineering environment.
Key Responsibilities
Naval Architecture & Mechanical Design
- Design, develop, and release CAD models and engineering drawings for hull designs and related marine systems.
- Develop andmaintainweight studies throughout the design process.
- Perform hydrostatics analyses to support performance and safetyobjectives.
- Define system requirements andcomponentspecifications for mechanical systems, including propellers, rudders, tracking fins, propeller shafts, and shaft struts.
- Conceive and develop new mechanical components and system designs focused on customer convenience and manufacturability.
- Support engineering analyses and documentation including DFMEA, DVP&R, and manufacturing feasibility.
- Generate engineering drawings and prints for production release.
- Perform mechanical design verification testing.
Testing, Validation & Product Performance
- Support andparticipatein on-water product performance validation (approximately 25% of time).
- Evaluate handling, propulsion performance, and overall vessel behavior.
- Analyze test data and support design refinements based on performance results.
Standards Compliance, Documentation & Change Management
- Ensurecomponentand system compliance with marine industry standards, including ABYC and ISO (12217).
- Generate andmaintainengineering documentation consistent with MasterCraftBoat Holdingsstandards and best practices.
- Create and manage Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) asrequired.
- Attend ABYC certification classes and remain current on applicable regulatory requirements.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Technical Development
- Collaborate with Production, Quality, Customer Service, Sales, and Engineering teams to support product development and launch activities.
- Conduct product research on mechanical equipment and components.
- Research and integrate new equipment designs and technologies as industry trends evolve.
- Facilitate training seminars for assembly personnel on new construction requirements and sound manufacturing practices.
- Provide technical support to internal teams andinterface effectively withexternal vendors, dealers, and customers.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or advanced degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, ora relatedfield.
- 0–5 years of experience in the marine industry; recreational boat experience preferred.
- ABYC certificationpreferred.
- Licensed orable to be licensedtooperatea powerboat.
Technical & Professional Skills
- Experience or exposure to naval architecture and engineering tools such as Rhino, Orca3D,Simerics, CFD, FEA, NX, and Excel preferred.
- Familiarity with ABYC and ISO (12217) standards preferred.
- Strong communicationand collaboration skills.
- Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, vendors, dealers, and retail customers.
