Job Summary:
Supervises deck operations when underway and ensures the safety of life and property in the absence of the Mate. While the Mate is aboard, the Senior Deckhand assists in the supervision and training of the deck crew.
This position starts now and ends 01/15/2027.
Must be at least 18 years of age.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
Include the following. Other duties may be assigned to assist the Food teams.
- Safely pilots the vessel using good judgment and navigational skills to maintain 100% safe operations in the event the Master becomes incapacitated in the absence of a Mate. Must possess working knowledge of applicable unified rules of the road.
- Assists in recruiting and training Deckhands.
- Assists in the supervision of preventive maintenance programs, cleaning schedules, and supply inventories as directed by the Master.
- Executes the company's safety and security programs as directed.
- Proactively coordinates with Restaurant, Merchandise, and Entertainment Departments to ensure a consistently high-quality entertainment experience for all customers.
- Complies with all appropriate regulations of the Coast Guard, Army Corps of Engineers, Department of Natural Resources, Missouri Water Patrol, and all other Federal, State, and Local regulatory units under which the Showboat operates.
- Follows emergency procedure plans in case of vessel accident or personal injury.
- Reads, analyzes, and interprets general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations; Effectively presents information and responds to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public as well as representatives of regulatory bodies.
- Solves practical problems and deals with a variety of variables.
- Interprets a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, graphic, tabular, and schedule forms.
- Accepts coaching given with the understanding that the intention is improved performance rather than to belittle or berate the recipient.
- Supports company and departmental policies.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Must be comfortable working on a moving vessel away from land.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage.
- Have a basic understanding of diesel-electric propulsion, hydrodynamics, and general mechanical operating principles of HVAC/refrigeration, hydraulics, pneumatics, shipboard plumbing, electrical generation, and distribution.
Education/Experience:
- Related experience and/or training or an equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred.
- Must maintain a current valid driver’s license.
