Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Port Engineer / Project Manager to lead the planning, coordination, and oversight of vessel maintenance and capital improvement projects across a diverse marine fleet. The ideal candidate will combine strong technical marine engineering expertise with proven project management capabilities, proactively optimizing maintenance programs to ensure operational efficiency and fleet reliability.
Responsibilities
- Lead the planning and scheduling of preventative and corrective maintenance for assigned vessels.
- Develop and manage maintenance budgets, forecasts, and lifecycle cost strategies.
- Oversee shipyard projects, including drydockings, repairs, and retrofits, ensuring timely and within-budget delivery.
- Coordinate with vessel crews, operations teams, vendors, and shipyards to facilitate seamless maintenance execution.
- Evaluate vessel performance and reliability, identifying opportunities for improvement and cost savings.
- Manage third-party contractors, service providers, and equipment vendors.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements (USCG, ABS, EPA, and others).
- Support incident investigations and implement corrective actions related to mechanical or equipment failures.
- Maintain accurate technical records, reports, and documentation for fleet assets.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering or a related technical field preferred.
- USCG Engineering License (Chief Engineer, 1AE, or 2AE) strongly preferred.
- Minimum of 7+ years of experience in marine engineering, port engineering, or vessel maintenance management.
- Proven experience planning and managing shipyard availabilities and maintenance programs.
- Strong understanding of marine systems, including propulsion, electrical, and auxiliary equipment.
- Experience managing budgets, vendors, and multi-disciplinary projects.
- Familiarity with regulatory compliance (USCG, ABS, EPA).
- Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Preferred: Experience supporting tug, barge, OSV, or similar commercial marine fleets.
- Preferred: Shore-based port engineering or technical management experience.
- Project Management certification (PMP) is a plus.
