Job Description
Primary Duties / Responsibilities:
- The direction and supervision of the AB's in the safe and efficient performance of operational and maintenance tasks about the vessel, including machinery spaces when required.
- General vessel maintenance, including safe handling of tools and equipment for surface preparation and the application of paints and solvents.
- Keeping the Chief Officer advised of usage and re-order requirements of deck consumables.
- Maintenance of emergency equipment and assisting the Chief Officer in the maintenance of lifesaving and firefighting equipment.
- Launching, recovery and routine daily maintenance of rescue craft.
- Taking soundings of the vessel tanks and spaces as required and conducting inspections for ingress of water to void spaces, cofferdams, double-bottom tanks etc.
- Assisting in all matters related to marine operations, including Watchkeeping duties as required.
- Performing emergency duties in accordance with the vessel's Muster List / Station Bill.
- Ensuring that his daily activities and the activities of the AB's are carried out in a safe and healthy manner and that the impact of such activities on the environment is within acceptable limits.
- Complete other duties and/or projects as required and assigned by management.
Qualifications
Education / Training: The Bosun shall be qualified in accordance with STCW 95 Regulation II/4.
Experience: Minimum 1years experience as AB on a DP operated vessel.
Skills: Able to speak and understand English.
Special Requirements
- Additional requirements are contained in the Qualifications and Training Matrix appropriate to each vessel.
- Bosun has the authority to stop ANY activity on the grounds of immediate safety, health and environmental hazards.
Decision Making: The Bosun co-ordinates with the Chief Officer, Bridge Watchkeeping Officers, HLO (if not performing said duties), Crane Operators, AB's or any other personnel necessary for the safe and efficient operation of the deck department.
