Job Summary We are seeking an experienced Assistant Port Engineer to provide technical and operational support for the maintenance and overhaul activities of US Government vessels. The role involves collaborating on special projects, monitoring vessel performance, and assisting with critical engineering tasks like overhauls and repairs. Candidates must possess relevant industry experience, a strong understanding of regulatory compliance, and the ability to manage complex shipyard projects. The position requires a proactive professional committed to maritime safety and operational integrity.
Responsibilities
Requirements
A minimum of one year of experience as a Port Engineer, with direct involvement managing at least one shipyard dry-docking project valued at no less than three million dollars, demonstrating capability in negotiating complex shipyard repairs and overhauls.
At least three years of service aboard government or commercial ocean-going ships of no less than 4,000 HP, serving as Chief Engineer, First Assistant Engineer, or Second Assistant Engineer, with proven management of maintenance and repairs.
A minimum of five years of combined education and experience encompassing:
An engineering-related degree (e.g., Marine Engineering, Marine Architecture, Mechanical Engineering), or
Management experience within a shipyard environment, or
Previous service as a Port Engineer on a government or commercial contract, or
Active military service performing duties substantially equivalent to a Port Engineer.
U.S. citizenship with an active Secret Security Clearance or the ability to obtain one is required.
Additional desirable skills include experience in managing marine projects, familiarity with regulatory standards, and strong negotiation skills in complex maritime environments.
